One of Brian's decoys in action

Professional Artist/Educator Brian C. Ballard brings a love for history and water fowling together with his unique brand of traditional working decoys.

A two time National Endowment for the Arts grant recipient, Brian blends the utilitarian tools of the water fowlers trade with the seasoned eye of an American Folk artist to create truly beautiful and functional gunning decoys.

Brian has received recognition for his works from a number of organizations.

He has been twice named a “Master Carver” by the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art in Salisbury Maryland.

He was also selected to participate in Michigan State University’s Michigan Heritage Artist program with the MSU Museum’s Traditional Artist program.

Brian’s work has gone to support conservation organizations across the U.S. and he is especially proud of his affiliation with Ducks Unlimited where his carvings are featured regularly at many live auctions.

Brian’s other passion comes as an educator. He holds a BFA and k-12  Art Teaching degree from Kendall College of Art and Design and Ferris State University.

Rabbit River Decoys Studios is very often filled with the laughter of carvers young and old as they attend “The Ballard University for the decoy Arts and Sciences”. Where they learn the traditional art of hand crafting working decoys.
